Summer has settled in, but it refuses to settle down.
The AfterShokz bone conduction headphones team believes that sound is a language more than a sense, and the summer speaks louder than any time of year. That’s why there are nearly fifty festivals of varying size and scope this August in the U.S. alone.
We’ve selected the choicest cuts of American music to highlight in this installment of Live Soundz, for August and beyond. You’re over the hump, but you mustn’t plateau! The rolling machine of live music, like progress, stops for no one.
Musik Fest – August 2 – 11. Bethlehem, PA.

This festival offers an eclectic, and ridiculously deep, lineup of music including classic rock, country, and electro-pop. Its goal is to highlight the greats of the mainstream, contemporary and from the last couple decades. Musik Fest is celebrating its 30th year in August and includes Darius Rucker, Ke$ha, and Foreigner. There is sure to be something for everyone at this marathon festival.
Gathering of the Juggalos – August 7 – 11. Cave-in-Rock, IL.

This festival is infamous, for better and for worse, as the ultimate celebration of Insane Clown Posse, its associated acts, and its general culture. Documentaries have been made about this oft-misunderstood pop cultural phenomenon, so extended is its cultural reach. In addition to all the music from their Psychopathic Records label, there will be artistic sideshows and amateur wrestling. For an utterly original spectacle, check out the festival this August.
Summer Set Music Festival – August 9 – 11. Somerset, WI

This is a lovely blend of music and camping in rural Somerset. The lineup is laid back electro and indie music including the mashups of Girl Talk, hip hop legends Common and Big Boi, and electro-pop group Passion Pit. Check out the lineup to get a better idea. Enjoy the great outdoors and surrender to the freedom of the campout festival.
Burning Man – August 26 – September 2. Black Rock City, NV.

It’s the festival that needs no introduction. Either you’ve been and know about it, already, or you’ve never heard of it and, according to the official website, it “is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind.” Though music is not necessarily the focal point here, with more focus on community, art, and the general self-sufficient culture of a city built exclusively for the festival in the sands of Black Rock Desert, there is plenty of music to be had, in varying formats with no particular lineup. Leave the world and arrive somewhere else, in a ghost of a city that exists only for Burning Man and then dissipates into the desert sands.
These should be enough to keep you busy for August, in whichever musical direction you plan on drifting. Again, always be prepared! We suggest bringing a pair of our bone conduction headphones for travel to and from the festival. You can also use them to check out of reality during periods of downtime you may wish to experience, and give yourself a mini music vacation to recuperate. The real world will be waiting for you when you decide to return.
